Melbourne

I am in Melbourne and its Wednesday at 12:30pm. I have to keep saying this to myself because yesterday I left San Francisco at 7pm on Sunday and I arrived in Melbourne at 9:30am on Tuesday - I lost the whole of Monday 5th December !! It was a bit weird.

I had a wonderful time with Ken and Nora. On Saturday Ken and I drove up above Santa Cruz to the vineyards, we visited the David Bruce winery where they had a members event for Christmas with food and wines and carol singers. Its was beautiful, they allowed us in after Ken told them that I had come all the way from Scotland... We went onto another winery with a fantastic view all the way out over the hills to the ocean and then on the way back Ken spotted a Scottish pub just off the road in the middle off nowhere, we had a chat with the couple who own the place, the woman has a serious obsession with Mary Queen of Scots, it was really funny because neither of them have ever been to Scotland. In the evening Ken and Nora and I went to San Jose for some wonderful Chinese food and a visit to a comedy club, we saw Caroline Rhea - she was excellent, a very funny and talented comedian. As always with comedians the best part of the show was when she made fun of some people in the audience but when she was pretending to speak with a lisp, Nora and I were almost wetting ourselves.

On Sunday I packed and caught the plane, when I arrived in Melbourne it was raining and I was so totally jet lagged I had no idea what time of day it was. I went to the hotel that I had booked online and when I saw the clock above reception I asked the woman "is it really 10:30?" She looked at me as if I was insane. Anyway the room wasn't ready till 1pm so I went for a wander around and got some lunch, when I came back I slept right through to 6am this morning and feel a lot better for it. Today I moved into a backpackers hostel for 3 nights till I get my bearings and check out Melbourne, I've gone for the single room option and not the dorm, I need to work up to the dorm. As it is the single room is a shock, it is clean and tidy but the bathroom is down the hall !
