Great Ocean Road
Yesterday I went on a trip along the Great Ocean Road, west of Melbourne along the coast towards Adelaide. The highlight of the trip was watching the sunset at the Twelve Apostles a really spectacular part of the coast line which is being eroded away by the ocean leaving beautiful outcrops some of which look like they have faces. I was cold and windy and all these people were huddled around waiting for the sun to set. It was a bit cloudy and although it was beautiful, I think it is more spectacular on a clear day when the rays of the setting sun illuminate the limestone cliffs. There is a famous spot called Loch Ard Gorge where in 1878, a ship built in Glasgow was on its way to Australia full of immigrants, when they spotted the first sight of land in three months they celebrated only to be smashed against the cliffs that night killing all but two survivors.
